Mulching the Garden

Once the heat really starts, it is time to water the garden with the rain barrels and put on a layer of mulch. This morning I made Gazpacho Soup using some of the tomatoes, cucumbers and green peppers from the garden...the flavors are melding in the refrigerator now...honey, lime, cumin, garlic, tobasco sauce, basil, tarragon. One of my favorite things to do is to really savour the flavors of my meal. I do this best by closing my eyes when I take my first few bites so that I can really focus on all of the flavors. I do this at many meals and just let the "yum" factor come zinging out of my being. Try it! Food is such a celebration of life.

Summer of Summers

Well, this summer has been amazing in terms of the garden surrounding our home. Is it climate change, wisdom, appreciation? There is a corresponding blossoming of the inner spirit as well, alert to everything around me...and tendrils reaching out to a community of friends and family...thus the blog (inspired by two friends...Malcolm on a motorcycle trip to Nova Scotia for three weeks and Katharine, writing a cook book incorporating her travel memories, celebration of food and friends). Come along for snippets of life here in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
